Two and a Half Men is on hiatus while Charlie Sheen attempts to straighten out some personal problems, but party-hearty Uncle Charlie might just be back on set before the month is over.
"Sources close to the show" tell TMZ that Sheen will return to work on the CBS sitcom in three to four weeks. The 45-year-old star, currently the highest-paid actor on primetime TV, has halted production while he's rehabbing from home after the reported 36-hour drug-fueled bender that landed him in the hospital last week.
An addiction specialist predicts Sheen could be recovered and ready to return to work within a month. If that turns out to be the case, producers would most likely be able to make up the two shows they've had to postpone now at the end of the production season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a shut down of Two and a Half Men could jeopardize as much as $250 million in domestic syndication revenue for Warner Bros. Television and CBS, as well as ad revenues.
Also standing to lose out big-time should the Men season be shortened are the 300 crew members who work on the show as freelance empoloyees. They don't receive compensation when they're not working and haven't been banking $1.8 million an episode like Sheen. Insiders have suggested to Entertainment Weekly that one way Sheen might smoothe things over with the understandably upset crew would be for the actor to step up to the plate and pay their salaries
However, if the reports of production resuming within the month are true, it's likely that no one would lose any money. The cast and crew would collect their paychecks (albeit a bit late), and Two and a Half Men would be right back on track. It sounds like a winning plan... so long as it doesn't cost Sheen his sobriety.
